If you’ve been told your child is nearsighted, you’ve likely gone home and searched the internet, only to find a mountain of options. Glasses, specialty contacts, night-time lenses, eye drops—it’s enough to make any parent’s head spin.
At New Vision Care, I know the "villain" here is overwhelm. You want to make the right choice for your child’s future, but you aren’t sure which path is the safest or most effective. As your Guide, I’m here to help you navigate the map.
Every child in Winter Garden has a different lifestyle—some are competitive swimmers, some are bookworms, and some are just starting kindergarten. That’s why we offer a "menu" of treatments:
MiSight 1-Day Lenses: These are the first FDA-approved soft contact lenses proven to slow the progression of myopia in children. They are daily disposables, which makes them incredibly hygienic and easy for kids as young as 8 to manage.
Orthokeratology (Ortho-K): Imagine "braces for the eyes." Your child wears a specialized firm lens only while they sleep. It gently reshapes the front of the eye overnight. They take them out in the morning and can see clearly all day at school and sports—without glasses or daytime contacts.
Low-Dose Atropine Drops: For children who aren't quite ready for contact lenses, a simple medicated eye drop at bedtime can effectively signal the eye to slow its growth.
We don't use a "one-size-fits-all" approach at our W. Colonial Dr. office. Our plan to find the best fit involves:
Lifestyle Assessment: Does your child play contact sports? Do they struggle with allergies?
Risk Profile: We look at how fast their vision changed in the last year.
The Family Fit: We choose the option that fits your family's daily routine.
Choosing a treatment shouldn't feel like a guessing game. During a pediatric eye exam at New Vision Care, we sit down with you and your child to explain the "why" behind our recommendation.
