If you walk down the eye care aisle at any drugstore here in Winter Garden, you’ll see a wall of options. It’s overwhelming! Most of my patients at New Vision Care come in having tried four or five different bottles, frustrated that their eyes still feel like sandpaper.
The "villain" in this story isn't the drops themselves—it’s the fact that most over-the-counter drops are just a temporary "band-aid" for a much deeper issue.
Many people reach for drops that promise to "clear away redness." As your Guide, I have to be candid: Avoid these. These drops work by constricting the blood vessels in your eyes. Once the drop wears off, the vessels bounce back even larger than before, creating a cycle of "rebound redness" that makes your dry eye worse over time.
If you are using artificial tears more than four times a day, the preservatives in the standard plastic bottles can actually start to irritate the surface of your eye. It’s a cruel irony: the medicine you’re using to help is actually causing more inflammation.
At our W. Colonial Dr. office, I don't just want to give you a drop; I want to give you a solution. Here is our three-step plan for better lubrication:
Switch to Preservative-Free: I almost always recommend "vials" or specialized preservative-free bottles. They are much gentler on the delicate surface of your eye.
Target the Oil, Not Just the Water: If your problem is evaporation (MGD), a watery drop won't help. We may recommend "lipid-based" drops that mimic your eye’s natural oils.
Treat the Root Cause: If you’re reaching for drops every hour, your eyes are telling us that the "factory" is broken. We use in-office treatments to help your eyes start producing their own high-quality tears again.
Don't spend another dime on the wrong bottle. Let’s sit down at New Vision Care and find out exactly what your tears are missing.
